HESKETH

First floor makeover of this historic home, built in 1918 in Chevy Chase Village.

We consider this home a gem, tucked neatly in the historic section of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Our task was to open up the first floor with fresh, new lighting and minor carpentry work to create better flow, and provide a fresh entrance for this busy family with three young children. Their desire to break out from the formality of a traditional living room provided us with a great opportunity to create a curated space with textures and patterns that have a slightly transitional flare.

We were careful not to abandon the historic charm of the home and included details like the bullion fringe on her loveseat and pretty window seat cushions, and classic roman shades. Going bold with draperies in the living room, dining room and family room really added the extra punch the home needed to make this transformation a reality. In the dining room, we painted the trim and moldings to match the grasscloth wallpaper and this helped pull-in the jewel tones in the cut velvet fabric on the custom painted dining chair backs, as well as the soft hues of the peacock blue velvet on the inside seats. In the living room, the geometric drapery pattern plays off the mix of textiles on the chairs and various throw pillows.

In the family room, we added lovely, whimsical draperies with a fantastic mix of seafoam and chartreuse colors, and painted the built-ins a gorgeous shade of glossy blue to compliment the tape trim and other accents in the space. Each room, including her office speaks to the other, with area rugs that coordinate well and bring out the fresh, cheerful vibe this home exudes. Two of our favorite additions are the artwork our client chose for her living room. We work with galleries all over the country to find unique pieces, such as these, which reflect our client’s joyful personalities and lifestyle.
